BAKER – The Mt. Lions Football team traveled to East Hardy on Friday September 10th. The homestanding Cougars came out strong and dominated Tucker County as they captured the win over the Mt. Lions by the final score of 46-0.
East Hardy got the scoring started with 8:32 left in the first quarter on a 10 yard touchdown pass. The PAT kick was good to make the score 7-0 East Hardy. The Cougars would then get the ball back on offense and they capitalized with another 10 yard touchdown pass with 3:43 left in the first quarter. The PAT kick was good again to push the East Hardy lead to 14-0. The Mt. Lions then moved the ball at the end of the first quarter and into the second quarter. The drive, however, stalled and the Cougars got the ball back on offense. East Hardy then scored on a 3 yard touchdown run and the PAT kick was good to make the score 21-0 with 4:58 left in the second quarter. Tucker County then was forced to punt from their own end zone. The Cougars then muffed the punt and the Mt. Lions recovered the football. The offense for Tucker County continued to struggle and they were forced to punt the ball again. East Hardy then blocked the punt, but the football was kicked out of the back of the end zone by the Cougars giving the ball back to Tucker County on the touchback. The second quarter would come to an end with the halftime score 21-0 East Hardy over Tucker County.
The homestanding Cougars would strike again, this time on defense as they intercepted a Tucker County pass and ran it back for a pick 6 touchdown. The PAT kick was blocked by the Mt. Lions to put the score to 27-0 East Hardy. The Tucker County offense failed to sustain a drive and the ball went back to the Cougars again. East Hardy then connected on a 62 yard pass and catch with 5:41 left in the third quarter. The extra point kick was good to extend the East Hardy lead to 34-0 after three quarters of play. In the fourth quarter the Cougars added a 4 yard touchdown pass and a 16 yard touchdown pass to put the final score at 46-0 East Hardy over Tucker County.
Tucker County’s Ethan Rosenau finished the game 15 of 29 passing for 118 yards and Racer Channell added 6 receptions for 56 yards receiving. JJ Knotts also led the Mt. Lions in rushing with 11 carries for 47 yards and Blaike Adams chipped in with 4 receptions for 27 yards receiving. JJ Knotts led the defense for Tucker County with 4 tackles.
