Tucker County’s Luke Poling throws a pass last Friday at Pocahontas County, Tucker County fell in the contest 40-7

DUNMORE – The Mt. Lions traveled to Pocahontas County for their first game of the season on Friday August 25th. Tucker County ran into a strong running attack as they fell in the contest 40-7.

Tucker County won the coin toss and deferred their option until the second half. This gave the ball to the Warriors to start the game. Pocahontas County wasted no time as they connected on a 41 yard pass play on their first play from scrimmage. Then on the very next play the Warriors scored on a 12 yard touchdown run with 11:34 left in the first quarter. The PAT kick was good to make the score 7-0 Pocahontas County early on. Tucker County received the kick and went to work on offense. Luke Poling then connected with Ben Cromer on a 46 yard touchdown pass that capped a 6 play 70 yard drive. The PAT kick was no good to put the score at 7-6 Warriors with 8:49 left in the first quarter.

Pocahontas County would answer right back with a 4 play 74 yard drive that was capped off with a 41 yard touchdown run with 7:35 left in the first quarter. The extra point kick was good to push the Warriors lead to 14-7. The Mt. Lions would punt on their next drive and then Pocahontas County fumbled the ball back to Tucker County at the Mt. Lions 27. Tucker County could not sustain the drive and was forced to punt the ball back to the Warriors again. Pocahontas County would add to their lead with a 3 play 73 yard drive that was finished off on a 22 yard touchdown run with 2:32 left in the first quarter. The PAT kick was good to make the score 21-6 Warriors.

The second quarter continued to be controlled by Pocahontas County as they intercepted a Luke Poling pass to give them possession at the Mt. Lions 32 after the return. The Warriors then scored once again on 3 yard touchdown run with 10:57 left in the second quarter. The PAT kick was good to push the Pocahontas County lead to 28-6. Poling was intercepted again on Tucker County’s next offensive drive to give the Warriors the ball at their own 37 yard line. Pocahontas County then put together a long drive that was capped by a 1 yard touchdown run. The extra point kick was no good to make the score 34-6 Pocahontas County with 5:01 left in the first half. Tucker County would turn the ball over again on a Poling interception, but Poling would get revenge on defense 3 plays later as he collected a one hand interception to give Tucker County the ball back at the Mt. Lions 3 yard line. Tucker County put together a nice drive as the time was expiring in the first half, but the drive stalled and the first half ended with the home standing Warriors leading 34-6.
