TUCKER COUNTY GIRLS’ GET WINS OVER MOOREFIELD AND PETERSBURG

HAMBLETON – The Lady Mt. Lions Girls’ Basketball team hosted PVC and Sectional Rival Moorefield on Tuesday December 18th.  Tucker County got off to a slow start, but the home standing Lady Mt. Lions took the victory by the final of 58-47.


The visiting Lady Yellowjackets got off to a good start as they outpaced Tucker County to lead after one quarter 14-5.  The Lady Mt. Lions fought back in the second to outscore Moorefield in the second 18-12 to make the halftime score 26-23 Moorefield.

In the third quarter Tucker County continued to push the pace and the Lady Mt. Lions scored 21 points in the period compared to 12 for Moorefield to give Tucker County the 44-38 lead after three quarters of play.  The fourth quarter also belonged to the Lady Mt. Lions as they outshot the Lady Yellowjackets 14-9 to make the final score 58-47 Tucker County.

Aliyah Plum led Tucker County in scoring with a career high 19 points and Plum also pulled down a team high 15 rebounds.  Riley Evans, Katie Surguy and McKinley Murphy added 10 points each for Tucker County in the victory.  Evans and Murphy added 6 rebounds and 4 assists each while Kelcee James pulled down 7 rebounds for the Lady Mt. Lions in the victory.

PETERSBURG – Tucker County traveled to Petersburg on Thursday December 20th.  The Lady Mt. Lions jumped out to a double-digit lead in the second quarter and held off a Lady Vikings comeback to get the road victory by the final score of 58-55.

The first quarter was played even by both teams as Tucker County led 13-11 after one quarter of play.  The Lady Mt. Lions then exceled in the second as they outscored the Lady Vikings 22-11 in the second to make the halftime score 35-22.

In the third quarter Tucker County struggled to score as Petersburg fought back into the game as they outpaced Tucker County in the third 17-6 to cut the Lady Mt. Lions lead to 42-39 after three quarters.  Tucker County increased their lead early in the fourth, but the home standing Lady Vikings would not go away.  Tucker County led by 6 points with under 1 minute to play, but the Lady Mt. Lions missed their foul shots to give Petersburg a chance.  A 3-point basket by Petersburg with under 10 seconds made the score 58-55 Tucker County.  Petersburg had on last chance to tie the game late, but Tucker County blocked the shot attempt to preserve the win for the Lady Mt. Lions by the final score of 58-55.

Riley Evans led Tucker County with a career high 19 points and Aliyah Plum added 13 points, 10 rebounds.  McKinley Murphy chipped in with 9 points and London Hood collected 8 rebounds for Tucker County in the win.  The Tucker County JV team fell in the first game of the night 35-17.
