PARSONS – On Friday Sept 13th the Mt. Lions hosted Northern Garrett MD. The defense came to play for Tucker County once again shutting out the Huskies and getting the win 7-0.

Northern received the opening kick and got one first down from a Tucker County offside penalty, but the drive stalled and they were forced to punt the ball back to the Mt. Lions. Tucker County took over on their own 20 yard line and the offense went to work. The drive was showcased by a 17 yard run by Seth Underwood on a 3rd down and 16. Then with 2:43 left in the first quarter Underwood went into the end zone from 16 yards out on a great run. The extra point kick by Michael Callaway was good and Tucker County led 7-0. The drive covered 13 plays for 80 yards.

The Huskies got the ball back and moved the chains enough to get one first down, but the Mt. Lions defense stiffened again and forced Northern to punt the ball away. The punt pinned Tucker County deep in their own territory and they started the drive at their own 11 yard line. The Mt. Lions offense then struggled and after 3 plays they punted the ball back to the Huskies. Both teams were unable to move the ball on offense and each team exchanged punts through the rest of the second quarter and the halftime score remained 7-0 Tucker County.

Tucker County received the second half kick and started on offense from their own 29 yard line. The Mt. Lions then got their offense moving once again. Tucker County drove the ball down to the Northern 11 yard line then the drive stalled and they were forced to try a field goal. The field goal however was missed by Callaway from 28 yards out and the score remained 7-0 Tucker County. Things then got sloppy for both teams on offense as Northern fumbled on their next possession. Then the Huskies intercepted a Mt. Lions pass. Then Tyler Birchland from Tucker County blocked an attempted punt by Northern. The Mt. Lions did not have the ball long as Northern recovered a Tucker County fumble on the very next play to give the ball back to the visitors.

Both defenses would dominate the rest of the game as neither team moved the ball efficient enough to sustain drives and the game ended with a Tucker County victory 7-0.
Seth Underwood led the Mt. Lions with 123 yards rushing on 24 carries and Zach Armstrong added 21 carries for 52 yards on the ground. Tucker County dominated Northern holding the visitors to just 81 total yards of offense. The Mt. Lions finished with 196 total yards of offense in the game.

Tucker County(3-0) will travel to PVC rival Moorefield this Friday. The game will be broadcast on 94.7fm WELK pregame starts at 7pm, kickoff will be at 7:30pm. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
