MOOREFIELD – The Lady Mt. Lions Softball team opened Sectional play at Moorefield on Monday April 30th. Tucker County fell in the contest by the final score of 11-0.
The Lady Mt. Lions could not get the offense going against Moorefield’s top pitcher Rebekah Markwood. Tucker County managed just 2 hits in the game by Emily Simmons and Gracie Rapp. Markwood struck out 9 hitters for Moorefield and the Lady Yellowjackets collected 9 hits to get the victory by the final score of 11-0. Lauren Cockerham took the loss at the mound for Tucker County, while Anna Dibacco came in for pitching relief for the Lady Mt. Lions in the loss.
FRANKLIN – Tucker County traveled to Pendleton County on Tuesday May 1st for an elimination Sectional game. Pendleton County got the victory 13-4.
Tucker County jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning. Lauren Cockerham reach base on a walk and she would later steal home on a wild pitch. Then Emily Simmons and Dominique Meadows drew walks to reach base for Tucker County. Anna Dibacco then hit a double to drive in the 2 runners to make the score 3-0 Lady Mt. Lions early. Gracie Rapp and Gracie Filler also collected hits for Tucker County in the 1st inning, but they both were left stranded on base. In the 4th inning Tucker County would get their offense going again as Filler scored off a Lauren McCrum squeeze bunt cut the Lady Wildcats lead 6-4. Shoulder pain then caused Cockerham to leave the pitching mound for Tucker County and Dibacco came in for relief. Pendleton County’s offense was just too much on the night as the Lady Wildcats pulled away for a 13-4 Sectional victory. Cockerham, Dibacco, Filler and Rapp led Tucker County with 2 hits each on offense and Simmons and McCrum added 1 hit each. Tucker County ended the season with a record of 2-13.
