CAMP KIDD – The Lady Mt. Lions Softball team hosted Elkins for a single game on Tuesday April 16th. Tucker County jumped out to an early lead and then cruised to a 14-4 win in 3 innings over the Lady Tigers.
The Lady Mt. Lions jumped out to a big lead after 1 inning after a 9-run outburst to make the score 9-1 after 1. Elkins would add 3 runs in the top of the 2nd inning to put the score to 9-4 Tucker County at the bottom of the 2nd. The Lady Mt. Lions added 2 runs in the 2nd inning to give Tucker County a 11-4 lead after 2 innings. Elkins did not produce runs in the top of the 3rd and then the Tucker County offense went to work. The Lady Mt. Lions would produce 3 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning to end the game by the 10run mercy rule by the final score of 14-4 Tucker County.
Tucker County was led by McKinley Murphy with 2 doubles and 1 single. Anna DiBacco added 2 singles and Gracie Filler had a double at the plate. Kristen Hicks, Gracie Rapp, Erin Cassidy and Hailey Tuttle chipped in with 1 hit each for the Lady Mt. Lions in the victory. Hicks got the win on the mound for Tucker County and Lauren Cockerham came in for relief action to preserve the victory.
BAKER – Tucker County traveled to East Hardy for a single game PVC contest on Thursday April 18th. The game was a back and forth battle throughout the night, but the Lady Cougars pulled away for the slim 13-11 victory.
The home team East Hardy jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the 1st inning. The Lady Mt. Lions answered back in the top of the 2nd to take a 4-3 lead at the bottom of the 2nd. East Hardy fought back with 2 runs in the 2nd inning to give the Lady Cougars the 5-4 lead at the top of the 3rd inning. Tucker County then scored 4 runs in the 3rd inning and 3 runs in the top of the 4th inning to make the score 11-5 after 4 innings. East Hardy then got their bats going in the 5th inning as they raced off 7 runs in the inning to take back the lead by the score of 12-11. Tucker County was held scoreless in the 6th inning and East Hardy added a run in the bottom of the 6th to make the score 13-11 going into the 7th. The Lady Mt. Lions were unable to advance a base runner in the 7th to end the game with East Hardy collecting the win by the final score of 13-11.
Tucker County had 16 hits on the evening. Cheyenne Gooden led the Lady Mt. Lions with 2 doubles and a single. Erin Cassidy and Hailey Tuttle chipped in with 1 double and 2 singles each for Tucker County. Anna DiBacco added a single and a double and Lauren Cockerham had 2 singles. Gracie Filler had a triple for Tucker County and Gracie Rapp hit the fence for a double on the night for the Lady Mt. Lions. Kristen Hicks added a single to round out the offense for Tucker County. Lauren Cockerham had 8 strikeouts on the mound in the loss for Tucker County.
