TUCKER SOFTBALL ENDS SEASON WITH SECTIONAL LOSS AT PETERSBURG

CAMP KIDD – The Lady Mt. Lions hosted Pendleton County for a Sectional elimination game at home against Pendleton County on Monday May 9th.  Tucker County jumped out an early lead and went on to take the win in 5 innings 15-3.  Cheyenne Gooden connected for a homerun in the 1st inning to put the Lady Mt. Lions up over Pendleton County 3-1 after 1 inning of play.  Tucker County would then extend their lead in the 2nd inning as the Lady Mt. Lions scored 7 runs in the bottom of the 2nd inning to make the score 10-2 to start the 3rd inning.  The Lady Wildcats would continue to struggle with their pitching as Tucker County added 5 runs in the 4th inning to put the scoreboard to 15-2 Tucker County.  Pendleton County added a homerun in the top of the 5th, but they could not get the score below 10 runs, so the game ended with a Tucker County 15-3 victory.  Cheyenne Gooden led Tucker County with a homerun, a double and a single.  Rachel Felton added a double and a single for the Lady Mt. Lions.  Ava Shaffer and Autumn Russell had 2 hits each.  Kristen Hicks, Raven Matthews, Brianna Gooden and Katie Hicks also had 1 hit each for Tucker County in the win.  Ava Shaffer got the complete game win on the mound as she gave up just 3 hits on the evening. 

 

PETERSBURG – Tucker County traveled to Petersburg on Tuesday May 10th for another Sectional matchup with the Lady Vikings.  The Lady Mt. Lions would need 2 wins to claim the Sectional Championship with Petersburg only needing 1 win over Tucker County to claim the Sectional title.  Petersburg built a lead and Tucker County could not complete the comeback as the Lady Mt. Lions fell in the contest 4-1.  The scoring got started in the 2nd inning when Tucker County’s Paige Shaffer blasted a solo homerun to put the visiting Lady Mt. Lions up 1-0 at the bottom of the 2nd.  Petersburg answered to tie the game at 1-1 with a solo homerun in the 2nd inning.  The Lady Vikings then added 3 runs in the 3rd inning on 2 singles and 1 double to put Petersburg ahead 4-1 after 3 innings.  Tucker County could not get their offense going the rest of the game as they fell in the contest by the final score of 4-1 Petersburg.  The win by the Lady Vikings eliminated the Lady Mt. Lions from the playoffs and Tucker County’s season ends with a final record of 12-15.  Paige Shaffer led Tucker County with a homerun and a single at the plate.  Katie Hicks had 2 hits in the game, while Rachel Felton added 1 double for the Lady Mt. Lions.  Kristen Hicks produced a single for Tucker County as the Lady Mt. Lions had 6 hits total.  Paige Shaffer took the loss on the mound for Tucker County as she went 6 innings and gave up 6 hits.  For more information go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
