TUCKER SOFTBALL OPENS SECTIONAL PLAY WITH WIN OVER EAST HARDY

CAMP KIDD – The Lady Mt. Lions Softball team started Sectional playoffs with a game at home on Tuesday April 30th against East Hardy.  Tucker County jumped out to the lead and never looked back to secure the win 8-0.

The Lady Mt. Lions got on the scoreboard first as they scored 3 runs in the 2nd inning to take the 3-0 advantage after 2 innings.  Tucker County would then add 5 runs in the 4th inning to make the score 8-0 Lady Mt. Lions.  East Hardy was unable to score to extend the game as Tucker County got the win by the final of 8-0.

The home team collected 7 hits on the evening as Rachel Felton led the Lady Mt. Lions with 2 hits.  Katie Hicks collected an inside the park home run to right field for her 1 hit and Reagan Herron hit a double to right field for her 1 hit.  Addie Hicks, Ava Shaffer, and Peyton Hicks added 1 hit each for Tucker County in the win.  Peyton Hicks went the distance on the mound for the Lady Mt. Lions as she struck out 7 batters in her 5 innings of work.

 

FRANKLIN – Tucker County Softball traveled to the top seed in the Section, Pendleton County on Wednesday May 1st.  The Lady Mt. Lions scored first, but the Lady Wildcats used 8 hits to score 13 runs as they defeated Tucker County 13-1.

The visiting Lady Mt. Lions would score first as they led after the top of the 1st inning 1-0.  Pendleton County then responded in the bottom of the 1st as they scored 5 runs to put the score at 5-1 after 1 inning.  The Lady Wildcats then added 2 runs in the 3rd inning to make it 7-1 Pendleton.  The home team then exploded for 6 runs in the 4th inning to put the game out of reach.  The Lady Wildcats defeated Tucker County by the score of 13-1.

The Lady Mt. Lions managed just 2 hits on the night as Addie Hicks and Peyton Hicks had 1 hit each.  Brianna Gooden took the loss on the mound for Tucker County and Ava Shaffer entered the game in relief.

 

MOOREFIELD – The Lady Mt. Lions traveled to Moorefield on Friday May 3rd for a Sectional Elimination game.  The game went 3 innings and was stopped at the top of the 4th inning due to rain as Moorefield was leading 5-0.

The Lady Yellowjackets scored all their runs in the 2nd inning as they led the game 5-0 when it was suspended after a single by Katie Hicks at the top of the 4th inning.  The game was rescheduled for Saturday, but the field conditions and weather would not allow the game to be played.  They are scheduled to play the contest on Monday May 6th at 6pm.

The Lady Mt. Lions had 2 hits in the game before the stoppage of play.  Ava Shaffer and Katie Hicks had 1 hit each.  The winner of this game will advance in Sectional play and the losing team will end their season.  For more information go to TuckerCountySports.com.
