Tucker County’s High School softball team had four games scheduled last week and were able to play three of them while collecting another win. TCHS traveled to Pendleton County to start the week, and the Mt. Lions found themselves battling early in the game. Tucker was down just one run after the first and two after the second. It was the third inning that sealed the fate for Tucker, as they surrendered 12 runs to the Wildcats to trail 15-1. That big inning would be the difference, as Tucker lost 16-1. Tucker’s Peyton Hicks smashed an inside-the-park home run for the Mt. Lions’ lone run, with Lilly Collar collecting a double and Lorelai Wilfong and Rylee White notching a single.
Tucker would then return home for a game against the (AAAA) Preston County Knights. Tucker led through two innings 1-0, and they were tied after three at one run each. The Mt. Lions would surrender five runs in the fourth inning and six in the sixth to fall to the Knights 12-2. Tucker would hit the ball better in the matchup, with eight total hits. Hicks accounted for two, with Bella Loucks, Kaydence Rosier, Becka Pase, Nettie Nelson, Wilfong, and Collar all with a hit each.
Tucker stayed at home for a rematch with the Cougars of East Hardy. Tucker pounded the ball on offense with a total of 16 hits, scoring in each of the game’s four innings. Several players collected multiple hits; White led the way with three hits and two RBIs, Collar had two hits while scoring three runs, and Wilfong and Hicks both contributed two hits each. Hicks picked up the win, allowing just one run on one hit with eight strikeouts. This quality overall team performance led to Tucker picking up the win 16-0.
The Mt. Lions return to the diamond next week as they travel to Philip Barbour High School on Tuesday, April 21st.
