The Tucker County Lady Mt. Lions began postseason play Wednesday evening at Camp Kidd against their Sectional opponent in the East Hardy Cougars.
The game was close throughout and runs were at a premium. The game was a pitcher’s duel with Tucker’s slinger Peyton Hicks only giving up 4 total hits, the Mt. Lions however, would only record 4 hits of their own. The first score of the game came in the bottom of the second when Rylee White would drive in Bella Louks and Tucker would go up 1-0.
East Hardy would match the score in the third as a deep fly ball to right field would provide an in the park home run and the game was tied at 1 apiece. The next score wouldn’t come until the bottom of the 7th and last inning. Makenna Evans would reach base on a walk and then steal second, one pitch later.
Peyton Hicks stood tall at the plate and crushed a high inside fastball to deep center field scoring Evans, and the walk off triple would prove to be the games winning play as Tucker took the win 2-1. T
he following night the Mt. Lions would again face East Hardy as the series was the best of 3. Sutton Pase led the hit parade for Tucker as she had 3 hits driving in 6 of the Mt. Lions 10 runs. The senior righty Ava Shaffer earned the win on the night, surrendering just 3 hits, and four runs, zero of which were earned.
With the 10-5 win Tucker has earned themselves the title of sectional champions. With the win Tucker will now face the Pendleton County Lady Wildcats in Regional tournament play. The matchup is slated for May 20th in Franklin at 6:00pm.
