TUCKER SOFTBALL TEAM FALLS AT KEYSER AND GILMER COUNTY

KEYSER – The Lady Mt. Lions Softball started the season with a road contest at Keyser on Wednesday March 20th.  Tucker County fell in the game by the final score of 12-2.  Keyser scored 2 runs in the 1st inning, 5 runs in the 2nd inning and 2 runs in the 3rd inning to make the score 9-1 after 3 innings.  The Lady Mt. Lions scored 1 run in the 4th inning, but Keyser answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning to end the game at 12-2 due to the mercy rule.  Rachel Felton, Brianna Gooden and Makenna Evans collected 1 hit each for the Lady Mt. Lions in the loss.  Ava Shaffer took the loss as pitcher.  Brianna Gooden and Peyton Hicks also seen time on the hill for Tucker County. 

 

GLENVILLE – The Tucker County Softball team traveled to Gilmer County on Friday March 22nd.  The Lady Mt. Lions fell in a close contest by the score of 10-9.  Tucker County got on the scoreboard first with a sacrifice fly by Katie Hicks to score 1 run in the 1st inning.  The Lady Mt. Lions then scored 2 runs in 2nd inning when Addie Hicks hit a triple and Rachel Felton followed with a single.  Gilmer County then answered back in the bottom of the 2nd with a 6 run inning to make the score 6-3 Lady Titans after 2 innings.  Tucker County got 1 run in the 3rd inning on a double by Makenna Evans to put the score to 6-4 Gilmer County.  The homestanding Lady Titans then added 3 runs in the 5th inning to push their lead to 9-4.  The Lady Mt. Lions then rallied with 2 runs by a double by Brianna Gooden.  The in the 6th inning Tucker County scored 3 runs in the 7th inning after a Felton triple and an Ava Shaffer double to tie the game at 9-9 at the bottom of the 7th.  Gilmer County then scored the game winning run in the bottom of the 7th inning after a passed ball by the Lady Mt. Lions.  This gave the Lady Titans the win by the score of 10-9.

Addie and Katie Hicks led Tucker County with 3 hits each.  Rachel Felton and Makenna Evans added 2 hits each for the Lady Mt. Lions, while Ava Shaffer, Brianna Gooden and Peyton Hicks had 1 hit each for Tucker County in the loss.  Peyton Hicks took the loss on the mound and Ava Shaffer came into the game in relief for the Lady Mt. Lions. 

 

Tucker County will return to action today Wednesday March 27th at home against Southern at 5:30pm.  The Lady Mt. Lions will then travel to East Hardy on Friday March 29th at 5pm.  For more information go to TuckerCountySports.com.
