PARSONS – The Wildcats hosted rival Elkins Middle on Thursday October 2nd. Tucker Valley jumped out to a 40-12 halftime lead and the scoring continued in the second half to give the Wildcats a 60-24 blowout win.
Tucker Valley received the opening kick and the excitement begin as Cole Rapp took the kick and raced 75 yards for a touchdown to put Tucker Valley up 8-0 after the PAT. Elkins then went on offense, but could not move the ball. The Wildcats then blocked the Hornets punt and got the ball back on the Elkins 17 yard line. The home team struck again 5 plays later as Mason Johnson scored a touchdown on a 6 yard run with 3:51 left in the first quarter. The PAT was run in by Rapp to make the score 16-0 Tucker Valley. Elkins answered right back on the ensuing kickoff with an 80 yard kick return for a touchdown. The 2 point conversion failed and the score was 16-6 Tucker Valley with 3:34 left in the first. The Wildcats struck quickly on their next drive as Johnson took the handoff on the first play of the drive and broke free for a 56 yard touchdown run. The PAT was good to put Tucker Valley up 24-6 with 3:12 left in the first quarter. The Hornets fumbled the ball on the kick and the Wildcats recovered. Tucker Valley then put together a good drive. On the 5th play of the drive Corrick Ambrose connected with Alec Cummings on a 12 yard touchdown pass with 23 seconds left in the first. The 2 point conversion was good by Tucker Valley to make the score 32-6 Wildcats at end of the first quarter.
Elkins drove the ball down the field on their next drive, but a fumble on the Wildcats 7 yard line was recovered by Tucker Valley to end the Hornets possession. The Wildcats failed to sustain the drive and Elkins took over at the Tucker Valley 37 after a failed 4th down play. Elkins then put together a 7 play drive that was capped off with a 5 yard touchdown run. The PAT failed to put the score to 32-12 with 36 seconds left in the half. Tucker Valley, however, was not done scoring as they took the ball and went down the field quickly. Ambrose connected with Jeffrey Snyder on a 53 yard pass play and then Johnson took the ball and rushed 22 yards for a Wildcats touchdown with just 11 seconds left in the first half. The PAT was good and Tucker Valley went in the locker room with a 40-12 halftime lead.
Tucker Valley scored in the third quarter on a 12 yard pass play from Ambrose to Cummings and the PAT failed to put the Wildcats up 46-12. Elkins failed to move the ball and the Tucker Valley reserves came into the game and went to work on offense. The Wildcats would score on a 7 play drive that was capped off on a 25 yard touchdown run from Tyler Cooper with 6:43 left in the fourth quarter. The 2 point conversion was good to up the Tucker Valley lead to 54-12. The Wildcats then would turn the ball over to Elkins on a punt return fumble to give the Hornets the ball on the Tucker Valley 20. Elkins then punched the ball into the end zone with 1:30 left in the game. The PAT failed to make the score 54-18. The Tucker Valley reserves would score once again as Christian Purnell took the handoff and ran 53 yards for a touchdown with 1:12 left in the game. The 2 point conversion failed and the score was 60-18 Wildcats. The ensuing kickoff looked like the first quarter as Elkins took the kick and ran 80 yards for a touchdown with 52 seconds left in the contest. The PAT failed and the game ended with the final score 60-24 Tucker Valley.
Mason Johnson finished the game with 10 carries for 150 yards for Tucker Valley. Corrick Ambrose finished the game 4 for 4 passing for 85 yards. The Wildcats will travel to Philippi tonight, kickoff is set for 7pm from Philip-Barbour High School. For more info go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
