The Tucker Valley Wildcats track and field team turned in another impressive week of competition at the Morgantown Running Invitational on May 8 and the Elkins Middle School Invitational on May 11.

Facing 14 schools at the Morgantown Running Invitational, Tucker Valley athletes earned eight top-10 finishes while posting 16 personal-best performances.

Legend Harper led the Wildcats with a pair of second-place finishes in the hurdles events. Harper finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.29 and added another runner-up finish in the 200-meter hurdles in 28.61. His time in the 200-meter hurdles also established a new Tucker Valley school record.

The Wildcats followed that effort with another successful outing at the Elkins Middle School Invitational, where 10 schools competed. Tucker Valley collected 17 top-10 finishes, including 13 top-eight performances, while athletes achieved 12 personal bests.

Layne Suesli paced the distance runners with three top-three finishes. Suesli placed third in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:41.29, earned second in the 1600-meter run in 5:46.26, and added another second-place finish in the 3200-meter run with a time of 12:16.30.

Harper continued his strong performances in Elkins, taking third in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 17.00 and second in the 200-meter hurdles in 28.74. He also captured first place in the high jump after clearing 5 feet, 2 inches.
