PARSONS – The Tucker Valley Middle School Football team returned home to host Elkins Middle on Wednesday September 30th. The Wildcats led 18-6 early in the fourth quarter, but Elkins scored 2 touchdowns after that to get the win over Tucker Valley 22-18.
The Hornets got the ball to start the game and their offense went to work. The visitors drove the ball down to the Tucker Valley 13 before a Elkins pass was intercepted by Garrett Wilfong to end the drive for Elkins. The Wildcats then turned the ball back over on the first play as the Hornets intercepted the Sam Marks pass. Then two plays later Elkins scored on a 6 yard touchdown run with 10 seconds left in the first quarter. The PAT attempt was no good to make the score 6-0 Elkins after the first quarter. Both teams exchanged turnovers to start the second quarter. Then Tucker Valley got on the scoreboard on a 20 yard touchdown run by Marky Phillips. The PAT attempt was no good to tie the score at 6-6 with 3:20 left in the second quarter. The Wildcats then recovered the ball on a sky kick at the Elkins 38.
ucker Valley then was unable to convert a fourth down play as they were just inches short after a measurement. The second quarter clock then ran out with the score still tied at 6-6 at halftime.
Tucker Valley got the ball to start the third and wasted no time as Phillips scored again on a 40 yard touchdown run with 6:15 left in the third. The PAT attempt was not good to make the score 12-6 Wildcats. Both teams then struggled to sustain a drive the rest of the third quarter to keep the score 12-6 Tucker Valley after three quarters. The homestanding Wildcats started the fourth quarter with a big play as Phillips scored on a big 78 yard touchdown run. The 2 point conversion was no good to push the Tucker Valley lead to 18-6 with 7:40 left in the fourth. The Hornets then responded quickly as they connected on a 29 yard touchdown pass with 6:12 left in the game. The PAT was good to make the score 18-14 Tucker Valley. The Wildcats then would fumble the ball on their next drive and Elkins recovered at the Tucker Valley 41 with 5:32 left in the fourth quarter. Elkins then would drive the ball down and score on a 2 yard touchdown run. The 2 point conversion was good to give the Hornets the lead 22-18 with 2:43 left in the game. Tucker Valley then picked up 2 first downs on their next drive, but the clock ran out and the Wildcats fell to Elkins in the contest by the final score of 22-18.
