Rylan Sexton takes a cut on the ball.

By: Adam Freeman

Tucker Valley’s middle school baseball team took on two teams last week, both at River City Ball Park in Parsons. The Wildcats took on the Petersburg Vikings. Rylan Sexton and Luke Lantz both collected two hits in the game, but none turned into runs. Tucker would remain scoreless and be shut out by the Vikings 12-0.

Tucker would sing a different tune in their second matchup of the week as the Bruceton Bulldogs came to town. Bruceton held a narrow 2-0 lead after three innings, but Tucker would explode for five runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-2 lead. The Wildcats would hold Bruceton scoreless for the remainder of the game while scoring four more runs in the bottom of the sixth to secure the victory at 9-2.

Bentley Haddix got the win for Tucker Valley with 5.0 innings pitched, allowing two hits and two runs while recording eight strikeouts. Fellow seventh grader Luke Lantz got credit for the save with 1.0 inning pitched, allowing one hit and no runs. Haddix also collected two hits in the game, along with two hits and three RBIs from Wade Boyles. Tucker’s record stays at .500 on the year at 4-4, and they will play next on Tuesday, the 28th, at West Preston Middle School.
