At the regular meeting of the Parsons City Council, council members discussed the purchasing of cameras to be used for traffic control. These cameras would gauge your speed and take a photo of your license plate, if you are speeding. They could also be used to detect a vehicle that may run a stop sign or red light. The cameras would be mounted in various locations, with the city able to change these locations as they wished. The matter is just under discussion and council wants more information on these systems.
Council is considering making big changes to the building code. These changes are to include regulation the erection, construction, or repair of any structure within the city limits. Changes would also require minimum specifications for electric wiring and plumbing. If these changes are accepted, any construction will require a building permit application with all pertinent information filed with it. The required information could include site plans, architectural prints, material specifications, or any other information deemed necessary to make a judgment on the application.
The proposed changes will also require you to have your construction inspected upon completion and receive a use and occupancy permit before using your building.
The park board announced at its regular meeting that they will be holding a contest for the Kindergarten classes to name the new Pirate Ship play set at Mill Race Park. They are asking the teachers to have their end of year picnic at the park and at that time will name the ship and christen it with water balloons.
Tim Auvil, on behalf of the park board, announced that there will not be a men’s softball league this year due to the high cost of insurance.
In other business, the council agreed to auction the old city maintenance building and surrounding property on Walnut Street. Robert Summerfield will be the auctioneer.
The next regular meeting of the Parsons City Council will be at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 in the council chambers of the Charles W. “Bill” Rosenau Municipal Building.
