Parsons City Chief of Police, Keven Keplinger ,recently received an anonymous phone call about a particular pill. At first Keplinger thought the pill, in the shape of a shoe, may have been MDA or ecstasy. After further testing the candy like pill tested as a very high positive for methenamine. Keplinger expressed a great concern for the residents of Tucker County and their children because the pill can be highly dangerous because it looks greatly like a piece of candy.
The City of Parsons posted a Heads-Up from the Parsons’ Police Department. The post states: “What you see looks like a tennis shoe, a creatively shaped vitamin or sweet tart treat. What it REALLY IS, is a drug found to contain Meth and Meth-like substances. Pay attention to what your children might be given or might find in their travels each day. Have that talk with them to warn them ahead of time what is out there and how to avoid it!”
Keplinger said the pill is also being found in surrounding counties such as Grant County. Police officials are working delinquently to find the source of these dangerous pills. Keplinger said that the main thing right now Is make the public aware and protect the citizens and their children.
According to The Exponent Telegram: “A Center for Disease and Prevention report recently outlined the lethality of fentanyl. From May 2020 to May 2021, West Virginia had 1,417 drug overdose deaths, and that number was underreported due to incomplete date, according to the CDC. Also, according to the CDC, a huge number of those deaths were from synthetic opioids totaling 1,139.
A book by author Sam Quinones, “The Least of Us: True Tales of America and Hope in the Time of Fentanyl and Meth,” looks at how the changes in how the drug is being manufactured has made America’s drug crisis even more of a crisis. Quinones’ book explains how fentanyl is being pressed into counterfeit pill form and how there’s no quality control process. That’s been killing lots of people around the country.”
