Tucker County Commission President Mike Rosenau encourages local County and Municipal Boards to Attend a training by the State Auditor’s Office. According to Rosenau, the training will be held October 23rd in Bridgeport, with other dates and locations available, as well.
Roseanau said that Tucker County Administrator Shelia DeVilder has worked with local Boards make sure they are abiding by the law when it comes to the length of their terms. “Shelia has worked diligently tying to get our boards in line as far as their terms,” Rosenau said.
Rosenau said that terms are important because only members that are legally within their terms can vote to disperse funds. “Bylaws we can deal with. Terms, if you’ve got a member on a board and their term has expired, how can they vote on dispersing funds legally? They can’t, because they’re no longer a member of the board. So that is one thing that we have really worked on,” Rosenau said.
Rosenau said he understands that Boards are volunteer organizations and the pressures they face. “I understand that the boards are voluntary,” Rosenau said. Its hard to get people to volunteer for them anyway,” Rosenau said.
Rosenau thanked the members of area Boards for their service. “I thank all those serving on the boards because it is a thankless job,” Rosenau said. “But we have to have them.”
Rosenau said that he believes in doing things legally in all areas of government and life. “Its the one thing I say all the time, how many times do you hear me say that, ‘as long as we do it legally,”’ Rosenau said. “So that is what I want to make sure.”
Rosenau encouraged the Boards to send at least one representative to one of the upcoming trainings. “These Boards, I encourage them to at least send one representative to this training so they can bring it back to their board,” Rosenau said.
According to Rosenau it is especially important for the Authority Boards to attend. “Especially the Authority Boards, the Advisory Boards I’m not as concerned about,” Rosenau said. “But the Authority Boards that manage their money need to know how to do it.”
According to Roseanu, the training is a Regional event to be held in Bridgeport. DeVilder said there are other days and locations available for the training, as well. For more information contact the Tucker County Commission Office. “It is a Regional training,” Rosenau said. “It is Wednesday, October 23rd in Bridgeport.”
