The Mt. Lions of TCHS football returned home this week to play host to the Cameron Dragons, who made the two-and-a-half-hour trip south to R.H. Armstrong Memorial Field, Class of 1985 Stadium.
The first quarter was a back-and-forth fistfight, with neither team being able to put together a scoring drive. Cameron would strike first in the second quarter on a 21-yard passing touchdown, with the extra try no good. Cameron led 6-0.
The Dragons would strike again before the halftime break, this time on an eight-yard score through the air to extend the lead to 12-0. The Dragons would threaten to score once more before heading to the locker room for the half, but freshman cornerback Legend Harper jumped a route, intercepted the pass, and took it 30 yards the other way for a Mt. Lions touchdown. Tucker would fail to convert the two-point try, but cut the lead in half, and it was a ball game at 12-6 heading into the break.
The second half would be a different game altogether, as Tucker would fail to score a touchdown while the Dragons found the end zone three times in the third period and once more in the fourth to seal the Mt. Lions’ fate at 42-6.
Quarterback Branson Hyre, whose night was cut short due to injury, finished 6 of 12 passing for 44 yards with four interceptions. Hyre was credited with seven carries for -22 yards (including sacks). Senior Cade Rapp finished the night with 17 carries for 35 yards, with Evan Witt being the leading receiver with two catches for 27 yards.
On defense, freshman Rylan Sexton led the team with three solo tackles, while junior Evan Hexom followed with two solos and six assists.
Tucker falls to 3-2 at the halfway mark of the season, with a trip to Franklin next week to take on Pendleton County at 7 p.m.
