The Davis Thomas Bears soccer team had two matches last week, first traveling to Webster Springs Elementary to face the WCMS Highlanders.
Nicholas Crawford, playing as the right wing, scored the Bears’ first goal in the 6th minute with a skillful move past a Highlander defender, followed by a burst of speed to create space and deliver a perfect shot beyond the keeper’s reach. Just six minutes later, Crawford again outmaneuvered the defense with a well-timed pass from striker Walker Litzau, giving the Bears a 2-0 lead. Seven minutes after that, in the 19th minute, Litzau scored himself, making it 3-0 for the Bears at halftime.
In the 58th minute, Maverick Drenning scored the fourth and final goal, securing a 4-0 victory for Davis Thomas. John Lutz and Alex Kerr served as keepers in the first and second halves, respectively, both achieving shutouts.
The Bears then hosted their first home match in history at Canaan Valley State Park on Friday, Sept. 25 against Notre Dame. Both teams and plenty of fans arrived at the brand-new field and game venue that afternoon.
The first goal came just three minutes into the match when Nicholas Crawford crossed the ball to Malik Dillard, who deflected it to Kyree Dillard for the shot, putting the Bears ahead 1-0. Crawford scored the next two goals in the 16th and 22nd minutes of the first half.
The fourth and final goal came in the 39th minute as Maverick Drenning found the back of the net, keeping his streak of scoring every game thus far. The Bears took the win 4-0 over the Irish.
Davis Thomas improved to 3-1 and has not conceded a goal since the first half of their first match. They have three consecutive home games, starting with a rematch against Preston County on Monday, October 5, at 6 p.m..
