24th Annual Astronomy Weekend @ Blackwater Falls State Park.Includes guest speakers, workshops & star gazing parties throughout the day and into night. All events open to public. Live Glass-Blowing Demonstrations* Chip Turner from Appalachian Glass in Weston will demonstrate the fine art of glassmaking with live demonstrations. Sponsored by Land of Canaan Vacation Resort, Mountain Trail Rides and Alpine Lodge Blacksmith Exhibit Local farrier Aric Heckler will demonstrate the heritage art of blacksmithing. Sponsored by Heckler’s Farrier Service & Mountain Trail Rides. Homestead Heritage Arts Exhibit** The Canaan Weaver’s will present live demonstrations of weaving, spinning, basket weaving and knitting. Sponsored by Ben’s Old Loom Barn.
Barrel and Bucket Making Exhibit* Cooper John Kessenger of St. Albans, WV will be demonstrating the heritage art of barrel and bucket making. Sponsored by Canaan Valley Resort State Park and Ben’s Old Loom Barn Wood Lathe Exhibit Stuart Strong of Elkins, WV will be demonstrating the heritage art of wood lathing. Sponsored by Canaan Valley Resort State Park & Durbin & Greenbrier Valley Railroad. “Porte Crayon” Living History Presentation featuring Don Teter of Monterville, WV, as David Hunter Strother. Strother was one of the most accomplished and diverse men of the state of West Virginia. Sponsored by Canaan Valley Resort State Park, Tucker County Chamber of Commerce and the Alpine Festival Association with assistance of the West Virginia Humanities Council’s “History Alive!” Program Friday, September 27th 10am Fall Foliage Horseback Ride- Mountain Trail Rides, Canaan Valley Enjoy the area’s fall foliage from horseback on a unique “Leaf Peeper” ride accompanied by some special guests. The first round of the talent show will be held Friday evening following the parade with finals being held Saturday.
