PARSONS – A Parsons resident who has spent his whole life in Tucker County has received an offer he cannot refuse and he and his family will be leaving the area. Nick Carr, along with his fiancé Kyndra Lantz and 7-week –old daughter Kennedy, will be relocating to Elsmere, Kentucky, where he will be opening the flagship office of G.J. Garton Insurance in Kentucky.
Carr said he was born and raised in Tucker County, growing up living just outside of Parsons on Route 72.
“I live in the Pulp Mill Bottom now in my great grandfather’s house. He lived in Parsons his whole life,” Carr said.
Carr said he has a rich family heritage of relatives who lived in the Pulp Mill Bottom.
“My aunt and uncle live there, my grandfather Don Goss lived there as well as Sonny and Donna Carr, my grandfather and grandmother. My mom, Julie Bright, grew up in that neighborhood,” Carr said.
Carr said he attended and graduated from Tucker County High School before attending Fairmont State University.
“After that, I decided to move back to Parsons and accepted a job with G.J. Garton Insurance,” he said. “I have been with Garton 2 ½ years now and this is an opportunity we just cannot pass up. This opportunity came to me from the owner of Garton Insurance.”
Carr said the town they are moving to, Elsmere Kentucky has about 8,000 people and is about 20 minutes from downtown Cincinnati. He said there are approximately 25,000 in the county.
“Kentucky reminds me of West Virginia,” he said. “We hate to leave. I think Parsons is going in the right direction.”
But Carr said he is really looking forward to looking for the opportunity to help G.J. Garton expand.
“I have never had the opportunity to go into an agency that has zero clientele and build it from the ground floor,” he said. “It is exciting time for Kyndra and I for sure – we have both lived in West Virginia our whole lives. I have traveled but have never lived outside of the state, so this is a big step for us.”
Carr was appointed to the Parsons City Council and was elected as its Recorder. He is also a member of the Tucker County Rotary Club, the vice chair of the Tucker County Democratic Committee, the chair of the Historic Landmark Commission and a board member of the Tucker County Chamber of Commerce.
“Pam will still be here at the Parsons Office – she will take care of the majority of the stuff here. She is a licensed agent and goes a great job. Janice will still be manning the front desk and doing a great job.”
Carr is the son of Kipp and Julie Bright.
