The House of Delegates of the West Virginia Legislature hereby recognizes Tucker County Day

Whereas, Thirty years ago to this day, Tucker County was digging out from the Flood of 1985, one of the greatest natural disasters this state has ever experienced; and

Whereas, Tucker County became the epicenter of this flood with millions of dollars in damage as well as lives, homes and businesses lost; and

Whereas, The community pulled together to rebuild businesses, take care of its neighbors, and find creative and spiritual beauty; and

Whereas, Tucker County’s skilled workers and award winning vocational and agricultural programs have helped the community return to an attractive area for new businesses and entrepreneurs; and

Whereas, Tucker County has great pride for its businesses that worked hard to remain in place and have lasted to provide jobs and become signs for resilience and community support; and

Whereas, The Tucker County High School, whose students bravely represented their county in football just days after the flood, and which has now been named a STEM school and over 80% of its students participate in extracurricular

activities; and

 

Whereas, Tucker County’s respect of education extends to welcoming National Youth Science Foundation; and

Whereas, Tucker County has an arts scene that includes award winning photographers, painters, musicians and is a magnet for creative people around the country; and

Whereas, Tucker County provides a quality of life that keeps families for generations while attracting new citizens from around the United States to raise families and seek tranquility on the mountaintop; and

Whereas, Tucker County continues to advance, innovate, and adapt in changing times while preserving and celebrating its own unique heritage; and

Whereas, Tucker County takes great pride in being recognized around the nation for its people and natural beauty, and welcomes visitors from all over the world, its greatest pride comes from being West Virginians; therefore

The House of Delegates of the West Virginia Legislature hereby recognizes Tucker County for its

tremendous contributions to the State of West Virginia and directs this Citation be presented this 10th day of February, 2016
