PETERSBURG – The Tucker County Girls’ basketball team traveled to Petersburg on Saturday February 13th and avenged an early season loss as they picked up the hard fought win 59-54.

The Lady Mt. Lions jumped out to an early lead after one quarter as they held a 15-11 lead after the first quarter. The Lady Vikings fought back in the second quarter to outscored Tucker County 20-16 in the period to tie the game at 31 at the half.

In the third quarter both team played even as Tucker County held a slim 44-42 lead after three quarters of play. The game remained tight in the fourth as neither team could gain an advantage. The last contest went to overtime and all indication showed this game was headed down the same path. However, Sydney Nestor had other plans as she stole the ball with 1:00 left in the game as scored a layup to break the tie to put Tucker County up 2 points. On the next Lady Vikings possession the home team turned the ball over to give the Lady Mt. Lions the ball with a 2 point lead. Tucker County then made their foul shots to put the game away and pick up the 59-54 road win.

Sydney Nestor led Tucker County with 27 points, 6 assists, 4 steals and Sydney Moore added 10 points. Elizabeth Nichols had 7 points and 8 rebounds for the Lady Mt. Lions in the win.

Tucker County(16-3) will return to action tonight at Moorefield and then they will host Pocahontas County on Thursday February 18th. For more info or complete schedules go to TuckerCountySports.Com.
