Physician-led innovation enters final prototype stage as  commercialization efforts move forward

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.– Intermed Labs, a medtech venture studio  specializing in healthcare innovation commercialization, announced that it has  advanced a new physician-led technology developed in collaboration with Marc Dotson,  DO, of Vandalia Health, to its final prototype stage, marking a significant milestone  toward commercialization.

Designed to improve communication during suspected heart attacks, the technology  enables emergency medical services (EMS), emergency departments, and on-call  cardiologists to securely share critical patient information before the patient arrives at  the hospital. The platform delivers field electrocardiograms (ECGs), ambulance location,  estimated arrival time, and clinical updates through a real-time mobile workflow, giving  care teams greater visibility during one of healthcare’s most time-sensitive emergencies.

Heart attacks require rapid clinical decision-making, yet hospitals often receive  fragmented or delayed information from the field. These communication gaps can slow  specialist review, delay cardiac catheterization lab preparation, and reduce valuable  treatment time when every minute can impact patient outcomes.

By connecting first responders and hospital teams before arrival, the technology is  designed to support faster clinical awareness, earlier care coordination, and improved  operational readiness.

“As physicians, we experience firsthand where communication breaks down during  emergency care,” Dr. Dotson said. “The goal of this technology is to provide specialists  with the information they need while the patient is still en route to the hospital, allowing  teams to prepare sooner and coordinate care more effectively. We believe improving  communication has the potential to make a meaningful difference for both providers and  patients.”

Intermed Labs has partnered with Dr. Dotson and Vandalia Health throughout the  innovation process, providing commercialization strategy, product development  guidance, prototype design, intellectual property support, and market validation to transform the clinical concept into a scalable healthcare technology. The project has  now reached what is expected to be its final prototype phase before commercialization.

“The best healthcare innovations begin with clinicians who understand the challenges of  patient care because they live them every day,” said Ashok Aggarwal, Co-Founder of  Intermed Labs. “Our role is to help transform those ideas into real-world solutions by  providing the structure, expertise, and commercialization pathway needed to move from  concept to market. This project with Dr. Dotson is another example of how physician-led  innovation can create technologies with the potential to improve care delivery across the  healthcare system.”

Intermed Labs works with physicians, researchers, health systems, and entrepreneurs  to identify unmet clinical needs and guide innovations from idea through  commercialization. Through its venture studio model, the company provides strategic  support across product validation, intellectual property, prototype development,  regulatory planning, business strategy, and commercialization, helping accelerate the  adoption of technologies that improve patient care and healthcare operations.
