Tucker County’s golf team embarked on a journey to The Raven on Monday, hosted by Tygarts Valley. TC made a strong start, securing the early lead. Senior Nate Davis led all golfers, maintaining an even-par score throughout the first six holes. Unfortunately, the match was abruptly ended due to storms in the area. The team had high hopes of carrying that momentum into the next day, when they were scheduled to host a match at Canaan Valley Resort. However, the rain forced them to cancel the event.
Despite this setback, the team had another chance to compete on Wednesday. They traveled to The Polish Pines in Keyser for the Mineral County Invitational.
The 18-hole event proved to be challenging, and the team didn’t perform at their best. Although they didn’t secure a top finish, the team showed promise in the latter part of the match. First-year player Branson Hyre had the opportunity to showcase his skills and shoot one of his best rounds of the season so far. Senior Nate Davis emerged as the team’s leader, finishing with a round of 89.
The team will continue to hope for better weather this upcoming week. They will compete in a 9-hole match on Tuesday at Alpine Lake Resort, hosted by Preston High. Additionally, they will have another home opportunity on Wednesday, playing a 9-hole match at Holly Meadows Golf Course.
