Thomas, WV – Cortland Acres will be offering a six-week Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) training class starting August 6 and running through September 16. Anyone interested in taking the free course needs to register by Friday, July 27.
“Our on-site CNA training program provides a wonderful opportunity for anyone looking to secure their future,” explains Cortland Administrator Beth Clevenger. “The medical field is growing and CNAs are on the front lines of patient care. It’s a great path for anyone interested in steady employment or thinking of the nursing field but not sure which path to take.”
Classes run Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. during the first three weeks of the course and then Monday through Thursday the final three weeks. Students will take advantage of Cortland’s campus for classroom lecture and instruction as well as hands-on training while learning communication skills, how to provide compassionate care and procedural skills. Graduates of the program are well prepared to pass the state certification exam and start a career in the healthcare field.
CNA training is a two-part learning experience. The first part of the training takes place in the classroom where students learn all aspects of patient care, through lectures as well as hands-on demonstrations and practice.
Upon completion of the classroom training students will begin clinical training and work directly with residents at Cortland Acres. Closely supervised by a licensed nurse who is approved by the state as a Nurse Assistant Training Instructor, students work side by side with other aides, nurses and medical professionals to learn what working as a certified nurse assistant is like every day in a long-term care facility.
Registration for the upcoming CNA class deadline is Friday, July 27. Anyone interested in enrolling, please contact Lois Nelson or Kathy Supak at Cortland Acres at (304) 463-4181.
