The Tucker County Senior Citizens held their monthly Outpost at the Parsons Center on February 6, 2018. Evelyn Moore welcomed everyone. Everyone recited the Lord’s Prayer, gave the Pledge of Allegiance, and then sang “God Bless America.”

Those having a February birthday were recognized. The only one present was Debbie Simmons. The group then sang “Happy Birthday” to her.

Linda Bonner read the minutes of the previous meeting and they were approved as read.

“Groundhog Day” was read by Meg Buddingh. There were several readings about President’s Day. They included “Observing President’s Day” by Arlene Ramsey, “Our Presidents” by Bernice Hymes, “Like Washington” by Vera Lipscomb and “Abraham Lincoln” by Evelyn Moore. Linda Bonner then read us some trivia about Presidents.

After the announcements, Jessica Streets from the West Virginia Extension Office gave an informative talk on “The My Plate” method of meal planning. She explained about serving sizes and what to be aware of when reading nutrition labels. She played my plate bingo with those present. Everyone enjoyed themselves very much and they learned about several new vegetables that they weren’t familiar with.

The group was then entertained by 3 of our “Swingin’ to the Music” dancers who danced to “New York New York.”
Door prizes were awarded to Earl Moore, Bruce Turner, and Junior Mason.

A prayer for the food and for members who have lost loved ones or have loved ones in critical condition was then offered by Linda Bonner.

A delicious meal was had by all.
