Petersburg, W.Va. — The Grant County Bank celebrated the groundbreaking of its newest full-service banking location in Falling Waters, West Virginia, on Wednesday, June 3, 2026. The event brought together community leaders, elected officials, and bank representatives to mark the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the organization and the Eastern Panhandle.

The ceremony welcomed local and state leaders, community representatives, and members of the bank’s leadership team who gathered to celebrate the project and its impact on the growing Falling Waters community.

The new branch marks an important milestone as The Grant County Bank prepares for its official transition to the Highlands Bank name on July 1, 2026. The transition represents the next chapter in the bank’s long history of serving customers and communities across the region.

“This expansion represents an exciting step forward for our organization,” said George Ford, President and CEO. “As we prepare to officially become Highlands Bank, we are proud to continue investing in growing communities like Falling Waters while remaining committed to the local service and relationships that have defined our bank for almost 125 years.” Guests had the opportunity to hear remarks from community leaders, participate in the ceremonial groundbreaking, and learn more about the bank’s plans for the new location.

The Falling Waters branch will expand the bank’s presence into the Eastern Panhandle and support continued growth throughout West Virginia.

The event was attended by several local, state, and federal representatives, including:

Chuck Horst, WV Delegate representing the Falling Waters District

Rhett Dusenbury, Senior Field Representative for Congressman Riley Moore

Chris Strovel, Representative for Senator Shelley Moore Capito’s Office

Construction on the Falling Waters branch is expected to continue throughout the coming months. Additional updates regarding the new location and the official Highlands Bank launch on July 1 will be shared through the bank’s website and social media channels.

About The Grant County Bank

The Grant County Bank was chartered as a West Virginia state bank on August 6, 1902 and began operations on August 15 with its first office in Petersburg, WV. Our mission of providing financial services and products to families, small businesses, and the agricultural community has served both our customers and the bank well over the years.

Subsequently, The Grant County Bank has expanded its marketplace throughout the Potomac Highlands and now operates a total of seven offices in six counties. After more than a century of continued service, The Grant County Bank is truly “Committed to The Communities We Serve” and is a subsidiary of Highlands Bankshares, Inc., also headquartered in Petersburg, WV.

The Grant County Bank is currently preparing to transition to Highlands Bank on July 1, 2026, reflecting a new name and brand that represents the communities we serve throughout the Potomac Highlands. While the name and branding are changing, our commitment to our customers, communities, employees, and local decision-making will remain the same.
