The Tucker County Health Department (TCHD) was notified recently of two additional COVID-19 positive cases of Tucker County residents. Since then the  investigation has continued, and additional testing has been conducted and we have received all the results we have an update regarding both of those cases.  The State of WV Division of Disease and Epidemiology added a new definition when establishing COVID-19 cases.  COVID-19 cases are now all defined as either confirmed, probable, or suspected. The definition of suspected case is the individual must be asymptomatic (meaning no symptoms of disease) and have two negative tests within 10 days of the initial positive. The person also must not have an identified exposure to a positive case.  Both the cases from Friday, June 5th have met these requirements and have been changed to suspected cases. The individuals and their contacts have been released from quarantine. Tucker County’s case number will be changed from 6 confirmed cases to 4 with zero probable cases.  TCHD will continue to follow CDC and state guidance in handling COVID-19 test results, investigations, and response to COVID-19.

Please remember to be safe and take the appropriate precautions.  THE TCHD STRONGLY RECOMMENDS THAT EVERYONE WEARS A CLOTH FACE COVERING WHEN IN PUBLIC!

We must continue to follow these recommendations:

-Do not shake hands or hug others

–Maintain a 6-foot distance between you and other people

-Avoid touching your face.

-Avoid exposure to others who are sick.

-Washing your hands often with soap and water.  Use an alcohol- based hand sanitizer if hand washing isn’t possible.

The TCHD, Tucker County Office of Emergency Management (TCOEM), our clinics and many agencies continue to work to respond to this pandemic.  The goal is to continue to identify cases quickly and get those cases and their contacts under quarantine until they are deemed non-contagious by CDC protocol.  We strongly encourage all essential workers to take advantage of the testing opportunities.  It is critical that we identify positive cases and respond quickly to those cases.
