When out in Tucker County this Fourth of July keep the following list of activities in mind. Tucker County is full of fun and varied activities for friends and family to enjoy in town and in the wonders of nature as our country prepares to celebrate its birthday.

Head to Mountaineer Days

Mountaineer Days in Thomas on July 5th is a yearly tradition in Tucker County. The festival is full of fun for the whole family with something for everyone. The day begins with a 5K race followed by the opening of food and craft vendors. At 10:30 a.m. is a Kid’s Bicycle Decorating Contest ant Music begins on the Main Stage at 11. A parade is held at noon followed by a Cake Walk at 1 p.m. The day winds down with the festival’s famous Fireworks at Dark.

July 6th check out Celebration of the Arts at Canaan Valley Resort. The Wheeling Symphony Orchestra will be performing at 3 p.m. Bring a lawn chair and refreshments to enjoy the show.

A Day on the River

Nothing beats a lazy day on the water. Whether it be on a boat, kayak, canoe, tube or just in a swimsuit in the water, nothing beats the feel of the cool water on a hot summer’s day! Tucker County is full of places to take advantage of the Cheat, Blackwater and Dry Fork Rivers.

Hit the Trails

Tucker County is home to miles of trails. Whether it be on foot or on mountain bike, trails are a great way to see the Great Outdoors. Nothing says America like getting out in the wilderness. So pack a lunch and plenty to drink and hit the trails!

Have a Tailgate Party

Going to the Fireworks at Mountaineer Days with a few of your friends? Why not have a Tailgate party? Take a few snacks, make some patriotic non-alcoholic mocktails and enjoy the show!

Visit Historic Sites

Tucker County and West Virginia in general are full of historic sites. The area is full of Civil War history. Take a tour of some of the sites and learn some fascinating history in your own backyard!

Make an Ice Cream Bar

Get together with some friends and family and make some homemade ice cream. Make it even more fun by creating an ice cream bar with toppings, cones and edible bowls to choose from. Going to the Fireworks and planning a Tailgate? Why not add this for dessert?

Go Camping

Feel like getting away from it all for a few days? Why not take advantage of all the many State and National Parks Tucker County has to offer. Grab your tent or hitch up your camper and head to the Mon Forest, Canaan Valley State Park or Blackwater Falls and stare at the stars while munching on some roasted weenies and smores.

Play Some Games

Spend some times outside playing some games. Grab your racket and play pickleball or get some friends together to play volleyball or baseball. You could even go retro and put up a croquet set in the backyard. The sky is the limit with the offerings in the civic, State and National Parks in Tucker County have to offer.

Stay at Home

Don’t feel like going out this Fourth of July? Stay at home and host a BBQ or have a Patriotic Movie Marathon. Have a backyard pool? Just lounge. Throw up a tent in the backyard for the weekend and light the fire pit or backyard grill. The possibilities are endless for staycations for those who prefer to stay at home this July 4th.
