Parsons, WV April 22, 2020 WV Caring is honoring its 200 volunteers during national volunteer week. Our volunteers give their talents and time to help and support our patients and families living with life-limiting illnesses. Last year, they provided over 5,237 hours and 2,745 miles to support our mission.

Even during the Covid-19 pandemic while practicing social distancing, our volunteers mobilized their sewing groups and individuals to make over 1000 masks for our patients and families. In addition, they have made cards to cheer up our patients and wish them a Happy Easter. Calls have taken place of the in-person visits to check in with them and still provide companionship.

Volunteers play an integral role in providing care for our most vulnerable population. As required by the Medicare, Conditions of Participation, hospices are required to have volunteers provide five percent of the total paid hours that clinical staff provided.

WV Caring’s volunteers provide companionship and support for our patients, work in our offices with administrative duties, assist at our two Resale Shops and support of our various outreach and events throughout the year.

“Even though we will have to reschedule our annual Volunteer Appreciation Events, we take this time to honor and celebrate their selfless acts of kindness, time, talents and energy devoted to the mission of WV Caring’s non-profit hospice,” said Kim Riley, Manager of Development, Outreach and Volunteer Services.

Currently, WV Caring is seeking volunteers in several areas including: Resale Shop, Outreach and Events, Patient Care, Administrative and Clerical, Bereavement and Spiritual, and Special Talents like music, art, or pet therapy.

If you would like to give of your time and support patients with life-limiting illnesses and make a difference in our community, please contact Nancy Dotson by calling 1-800-350-1161 or by email at ndotson@wvcaring.org.
