BOE, Auvil and Stemple request recount of election results

Two weeks after the primary election, results for Tucker County remain unofficial. The decision for the Board of Education levy and the race between Ken Auvil and Tammy Stemple for Democratic Nominee for the 47th District seat in the West Virginia House of Delegates remain separated by only one vote. Initially, the levy failed by three votes with 682 for and 685 against, but after last Monday’s canvas, it failed by one with 686 for and 687 against.

Auvil took Tucker County’s 47th District with 181 votes to Stemple’s 137 votes, with no change after the canvas. However, the District rests in parts of both Tucker and Barbour Counties. The combined results left them separated by only one vote, thus both have requested a recount.

The official recount will occur at 8 a.m., Friday, May 30, in the Tucker County Commission conference room located on the third floor of the Tucker County Courthouse Annex. The levy votes will be counted first with the votes for the 47th District to follow. Watch The Parsons Advocate for future updates.
