The Tucker County Commission held session Wednesday, May 28th in what may be record time for the entity. With no public in attendance or elected officials to give report and a short agenda, the Commissioners completed the entire agenda in normal fashion without any haste despite the shortened session.
In unfinished business, appointments to three boards were made. The Commission appointed members to Public Defender Corporation 22nd Judicial Circuit, the Blackwater Public Service District and The Tucker County Ambulance Authority.
Shelia DeVilder was appointed to a three year term ending June 30, 2027 to the Public Defender Corporation 22nd Judicial Circuit. The appointment was made in a motion by Tucker County Commission President Mike Rosenau.
Judith Cronauer was appointed to a six year term ending May 31, 2031 to the Blackwater Public Service District. The appointment was made in a motion by Tucker County Commissioner Fred Davis.
Lenore M. Howell was appointed to a three year term ending in 2028 to the Tucker County Ambulance Authority in a motion made by Tucker County Commissioner Tim Knotts.
In other business, the Commissioners approved the hiring of a part time employee for the Tucker County Animal Shelter. The new employee is slated to begin May 30th at the Shelter.
Two items on the agenda were not addressed at the meeting. The Sponsorship of the Jr. Conservation Camp was not addressed due to the representatives not attending the meeting. Also a contributing factor was that the Commission did not have any information on the request in writing to review.
A road name request was also tabled at the meeting. The road name was found to be in the jurisdiction of the City of Thomas. The matter was tabled until the County Mapping Coordinator investigates the matter further and gets back with the requesting party.
“We determined after looking at it that its in the corporation of Thomas,” Rosenau said. “So the County Commission does not road name streets in a city.”
During his Commissioner Report, Commissioner Fred Davis said that the Animal shelter has been receiving a lot of cats lately, including some that were found in bags along Corridor H. The Shelter has also received five new dogs. Davis also thanked the Shelter’s fosters who have taken in so many of the animals that have been making their way into the doors of the facility.
“I want to thank all of the people that help house these dogs at their house, foster these dogs in the County,” Davis said. “It takes special people to do that.”
Commissioner Knotts said in his report that he and Commissioner Davis toured Flanagan Hill. During the tour, they examined a building and what repairs would need to be done. Knotts said that the repairs would be arranged.
Commissioner Rosenau said in his report that he attended a meeting in Buckhannon on economic development. There is also movement forward on the County’s Industrial Park, Rosenau said.
