Lady Mt. Lions get two wins to win St. Marys Invitational Tournament

ST. MARYS – Tucker County traveled to St. Marys on Friday January 15th to play Trinity in the first round of the St. Marys Invitational Tournament. The Lady Mt. Lions started strong and never looked back as they cruised to a 75-31 win.

The Lady Mt. Lions jumped out to the lead to start the game as Tucker County led after one 11-4. In the second quarter Tucker County extended their lead as they outscored the Lady Warriors 25-9 in the second to make the score 36-13 at the half.

Tucker County continued to dominate in the third as they outpaced Trinity 22-6 in the quarter to push the Lady Mt. Lions lead to 58-19 after three quarters. The reserve players finished the game for Tucker County in the fourth quarter and the Lady Mt. Lions got the victory 75-31.

Sydney Nestor and Elizabeth Nichols led the way for Tucker County with 14 points each. Kelcee James had 11 points nad Lydia Mullenax added 10 points for Tucker County in the win. Mullenax and Nichols collected 8 rebounds in the game and Sydney Moore added 7 steals for the Lady Mt. Lions.

 

ST. MARYS – The #2 Lady Mt. Lions Basketball team traveled back to St. Marys on Saturday January 16th to battled host #3 St. Marys in the Tournament Championship. Tucker County controlled things most of the game and held off the host for the win 57-55.

Tucker County led the way early as they took a 15-12 lead after one quarter of play. The Lady Mt. Lions outscored St. Marys 18-9 in the second quarter to push the lead to 33-21 at the half.

St. Marys fought back in the third quarter as they outscored Tucker County 19-10 to get the lead down to 3 points as Tucker County led after three 43-40. Both teams played the fourth quarter even as Tucker County held off the host team to get the victory 57-55 final.

Sydney Nestor led the way for Tucker County with 24 points, 10 rebounds and 4 steals. Elizabeth Nichols had 15 points, 5 rebounds and Leslie Nestory added 7 points, 5 rebounds. Sydney Moore collected 6 rebounds and 5 assists. S.Nestor, Nichols and Moore were selected to the All-Tournament Team after the game.

The Lady Mt. Lions(10-2) will return to action on Thursday January 21st at home against Pocahontas County. The girls’ will then host Pendleton County for a make-up game on Monday January 25th at home.
