Tucker County boys’ get two road wins at Philip-Barbour & Preston

PHILIPPI – The Mt. Lions traveled to “AA” Philip-Barbour on Monday January 11th. Tucker County held off a stingy Colts squad who fought back several double digit deficits to force 2 overtimes before the Mt. Lions prevailed 96-82.

The home team came out strong as they led after the first quarter 14-11. Tucker County got their offense going in the second as they outscored the Colts 22-15 to take a 33-29 lead into the locker room at the half.

Tucker County built a 13 point lead in the third before Philip-Barbour charged back late in the quarter to make the score 51-51 after three. The final quarter showed both teams exchanging baskets and the Colts took an 8 point advantage with 3 minutes left in the contest. The Mt. Lions fought back on an 8-0 run to tie the game with under 2 minutes left. Tucker County held a 2 point lead with 5 seconds left and Philip-Barbour tied the game to force overtime as the score was tied after 4 quarters 66-66. The Mt. Lions built a 7 point lead in the first overtime, but the Colts came back once again to tie the game late. Tucker County missed a shot to win the game to put the game into the second overtime. The Mt. Lions took control for good in the second overtime as they outpaced the Colts 19-5 to get the victory 96-82.

Seth Evans led Tucker County with 34 points, 13 rebounds and Ethan Crosten had 19 points, 9 assists. Marcus Mason had 18 points and Wesley Snyder added 10 points. Skyler Humphrey collected 8 rebounds and Kordell Fulton dished out 8 assists for Tucker County in the win. Philip-Barbour was led by Spencer Hudkins with 17 points. The Mt. Lions JV team fell in the first game 65-50.

 

KINGWOOD – The Tucker County Boys’ Basketball team traveled to “AAA” Preston last Friday January 15th. The Mt. Lions came out strong early and never looked back as they ran away from the Knights to win 71-41.

Tucker County started the game strong on offense as they led after one quarter 18-15. The Mt. Lions stepped up the defense in the second quarter as they held the host to 5 points in the quarter and scored 15 points to take a 33-18 lead into the locker room at the half.

Tucker County extended their lead in the third as they outscored Preston 22-12 in the third to take a commanding 55-30 advantage after three quarters. The Mt. Lions outpaced the Knights in the final quarter as well to take the victory on the road by the final score of 71-41.

Seth Evans led Tucker County with 34 points, 13 rebounds and Ethan Crosten added 9 points, 6 rebounds. Skyler Humphrey scored 8 points and collected 7 rebounds and Marcus Mason added 8 points in the win for Tucker County. The Mt. Lions JV team picked up the win in the first contest 43-38.
