Local High School Students will play a key role in telling Tucker County’s story in Charleston on February 10. ProStart Chef Carrie Shahan will bring down students to Charleston: Kelley Wagner,Lindsay Herron, Krya Fenstermacher, Amanda Harper, Hannah Liller, Haliegh Arman. Trenton Helmick, Alex Dyer, Kenya Jones, Seth Micheal

These students will be responsible for making and serving food to visitors from Tucker County and Charleston. “It is not enough to tell our politicians that we have smart and professional students” says TCDA Executive Director Anne Jones. “By letting our students meet these decision makers, we are showing Charleston what the future of our county looks like.” Chef Shahan is proud of her students “They are good kids and are looking forward to the trip.” Says student State Officer for WV Skills USA Amanda Harper “This is part of our simulated workplace program and we take this as seriously as a real job.”

Also joining the gala event at Culture Center will be teachers Mr Hauser and Mrs. Burns along with the three State Student Officers;

Amanda Harper – WV Skills USA, Andrew Hauser – WV FFA, Alexis Roth – WV HOSA

Assistant Principal JR Helmick, who will also be in attendance that evening is very supportive of these students representing Tucker County. “ I think it is an amazing idea.” He said “This is the first time in the school’s history that we have had 3 WV State officers from Tucker County.”

Students and teachers will be taking the coach bus down and back that day. While there are still seats available on the coach bus, Anne Jones advises residents to sign up quickly. On February 10, the coach bus will pick up first at the Thomas senior center at 1pm, the Tucker County High School for the students at 1:15 p.m. and at the Parsons senior center at 1:30 p.m. AmeriCorps and Tucker County Day volunteer Dan Minkel reminds people that they should get to the bus location early because the bus will be leaving on time. From there, the bus will travel to the Culture Center. After the event the bus will depart from Culture Center at 8:15 p.m. to give folks time to board the bus. The bus will make appropriate drop offs In Parsons and Thomas at the same pick up locations on the return trip.
