Tucker United, a newly founded group dedicated to resisting plans for a power plant and data centers in Tucker County met Saturday May 10th to prepare signs for future protests and exchange ideas at the Davis Town Hall.
Well over a dozen people of all ages floated in and out of the Town Hall to participate in the event. Families with children were in attendance as well as seniors and those of working age, as well. Also on hand was a photographer from the Wall Street Journal.
Tucker United Member Cris Parque said the event and signs were to prepare for future town halls and governmental meetings, as well as a way to keep people engaged with the issue.
Parque also said she anticipated the fight to be a drawn out process.
“Its a way to keep people engaged. This could really be a drawn out process,” Parque said.
Besides the Wall Street Journal Photographer, Tucker County also hosted a journalist from the publication on Wednesday who is anticipated to be penning an article on the matter of the power plant and data centers and their impact on the local communities.
At the gathering, it was also revealed that a series of eight Purple Air Monitors have been installed in Tucker County with funding for a total of 13. Purple Air Monitors are low cost air monitors designed to monitor air quality and are installed by “citizen scientists.” Data from the monitors is available at map.purpleair.com.
