Hambleton resident and West Virginia University freshman, Danielle Wilfong, receives Sheriff’s Association Scholarship

Danielle Wilfong from Hambleton was one of five students in the state to receive a $1,000 scholarship from the West Virginia Sheriff’s Association.  The award is presented to students who are majoring in Criminology.  Tucker County Sheriff, B.K. Wilfong and Mon County Sheriff, Al Kisner, presented the award to Wilfong at the Mon County Sheriff’s Office.

The West Virginia Sheriffs’ Association is a non-profit organization made up of the sheriffs in all 55 counties in West Virginia. The WVSA has thousands of Honorary Members across West Virginia. Honorary Member donations and Sheriffs’ Dues keep the organization alive.

WVSA also hosts the annual Youth Leadership Academy. The Academy helps to deter risk-taking behavior patterns by introducing young people to recreation alternatives and educating them about law enforcement and leadership skills.

The Sheriffs’ Association is also active in the law making process by lobbying for laws that will make our state better not only for our officers, but the citizens of our great state.
Wilfong graduated from Tucker County High School in June of 2013 and is a freshman West Virginia University.  She is the daughter of Brian and Chrissy Wilfong of Hambleton.
