Alby Cunningham, Jr., 80, a resident of Horseshoe Run Road, Parsons, passed from this life Friday, June 29, 2018, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home. He had been in declining health.


Alby was born Friday, May 6, 1938, in Rosendorf, a son of the late Alby Lee Cunningham and Bertha Victoria Phillips Cunningham. He was twice married. First to Lois F. Zepp Cunningham who preceded him in death. Second, to Donna Hile Cunningham, who survives.

Left to cherish Alby’s memory is his children, three daughters, Francis V. Raines and her husband Wilbert Raines lll of Stanley, VA, Christine G Grisham and her husband Jim Grisham of Bear, DE, and Dana Root and husband, David of Grafton, two sons, Charles E Bare and his wife, Danielle of Dundalk, MD and David D. Scott of Charleston, one sister, Macy Canfield and her husband, Loyal of Montrose, fourteen grandchildren, Desiree N Raines, Whitney L Raines, Matthew H Raines, Janice Riston, Joshua Riston, Kaitlyn Bare, Cody Bare, Christian Bare, Joshua Bare, Sarah Bare, Megan Helmick and husband, Warren, Samantha Marfield and husband, Chris, Camille Vanscoy and husband, Trevor and Brian Scott and wife, Stephanie, ten great grandchildren, Mylia, Mariah, Camren, Nia, Camilla, Nicholas, Julian, Blake, Jacey and Hallie, and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding Alby in death besides his parents and first wife are five sisters, Fannie Delawder, Geneva Smith, Geraldine Ebbert, Pauline Clark, Alene Boyd and one brother, Raymond Cunningham.

Alby attended Coalton School and Parsons High School and later obtained his GED. He proudly served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Army Reserves. He had been employed as a welder for Koppers, Environmental Elements, and Cave Hill in Virginia and Maryland. Alby served as pastor of the Full Gospel Mission in Baltimore, MD for twenty-five years, and he had also pastored Livingstone Ministries Church in St. George for five years. He had a passion for ministry and evangelism. He was a man of God who spent his time teaching and reading the Word of God. He was loved by his family very much and enjoyed spending time with them.

Visitation was held at the Hostetler Funeral Home on Monday, July 2, 2018 from noon – 2 p.m., the funeral hour.

Rev. Carolyn Shreve and Rev. Eddie Raines officiate. At the conclusion of the service, members of Tucker County Veterans Association, HW Daniels Post #29, American Legion, Tygarts Valley Post #3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the WV Honor Guard conducted military honors. Mr. Cunningham was then be cremated, and inurnment will follow in Parsons City Cemetery.
