Fred Dale Jones, I

Fred Dale Jones, I., age 79 years, a resident of the Sugarlands Community, Hambleton, WV departed this life Wednesday, November 8, 2023, on his farm.  Death was unexpected.

He was born Sunday, May 7, 1944, at home on Pifer Mt. St. George, WV, a son of the late Harold French and Lottie Vesta Nestor Jones.  On March 22, 1969, at the Gladeview Church of the Brethren at Red House, MD, he was married to the former Brenda Sue Knotts, who survives.  They had celebrated fifty-four years of marriage.

Also surviving are one son, Fred Dale Jones, II and wife Jenn of Parsons; four brothers, his twin brother, Clint Jones of Pifer Mt., Loren Jones and wife Bonnie of Illinois, Allen Jones and wife Carol of Parsons, and Connie Jones of Clover; two sisters, Narel Hebb and Ralph of Location, and Kathy Stump and husband Robert of Pifer Mt.; brothers and sisters in law, Sherri Smith and husband John of Holly Meadows, Lori Lipscomb and husband Tom of Morgantown; two grandchildren, Kenya Jones of Parsons and Bailey Bennett of Charleston; special friends, Greg and Tim Knotts and Delmas Hardy.

Preceding him in death are his father and mother-in-law, Ronald and Vera Knotts.

He attended the school at Pifer Mountain and graduated from Parsons High School with the class of 1963.   He was a member of the FFA, all four years of high school and won the Chapter State Farmer Award.  He was a Veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War with the 1st Signal Corps serving with the 44 Battalion.   He was a former employee of the U.S. Forest Service, Donnie Poling’s Texaco Service, the former Dorman Mills and retired in 2003 from Kingsford Charcoal Co., as a dozer operator for almost thirty-two years.  Fred loved sports, especially Tucker County, the Mountaineers, the Steelers and the Pirates.  He enjoyed going to the Bluegrass Festival and working on the family farm and hunting and fishing and the memorable hunting trips to Westcliffe, Colorado.  Fred never met a stranger.

The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Sunday from 3 to 6 p.m.  Final rites were conducted at the funeral home on Monday, November 13, 2023, at 11 a.m.  The Reverend Deborah Strawser, The Reverend Justin Jones officiated and interment followed at the Sugarlands Church of the Brethren Cemetery at Sugarlands, where the WV. Army Honor Guard, the H. W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion, the Tygart Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign War and the Tucker County Veterans Association conducted full military honors.  The family suggest that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to, Sugarlands Church of the Brethren, 218 Holly Meadows Road, Parsons, WV 26287.
