Herman R. Burns, Sr

Herman R. Burns, Sr., 82, of Thomas, WV, died on Monday, January 11, 2021, at his home. Born on January 12, 1938, in Douglas, WV, he was the son of the late Ira Glenn and Dora Elizabeth (Losh) Burns.

He worked at Sunrise Sanitation for 25 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to explore and tinker with everything. Horseshoes was one of his favorite pastimes and he never met a stranger.

He leaves behind his wife, Rhoda Burns; children, Herman Ray Burns, Jr. and wife Cindy of Thomas, Loye Ira Burns and wife Bobbie of Thomas, Rebecca Burns Sharp of Parsons, Brittany Burns Carr and husband Tyler of Oakland, Bryan Burns of Oakland, and Brandon Burns and wife Grace of Oakland; thirteen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; two sisters, Rebecca Lynn Burns Lipscomb and husband Gary of Parsons and Zetta Jean Sweitzer of Oakland; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorthy Virginia Burns; a brother, Loye Ira Burns; and a sister Regina Louise Fresh.

Friends were received at the Hinkle-Fenner Funeral Home, 567 Thomas Ave, Davis, on Wednesday, January 13, 2021, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Thursday, January 14, 2021, from 10 to 11 a.m. after which time a funeral service was held with Fr. Timothy Grassi officiating. Face masks and social distancing are required and if you or a family member are feeling ill, we ask that you stay home and visit with the family at a later time.

Interment will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, Thomas.
