JACK PAYNE, age 84 years, a resident of Parsons, WV, departed this life Sunday morning, June 17, 2018 at his home. He had been in declining health.


He was born Friday, June 8, 1934 at Job, WV, a son of the late Harry H. and Mabel Margaret Harris Payne. He was married to the former Deane Colleen Shields, who preceded him in death.

Surviving are two sons, Michael Patrick Payne of Cantonment, FL and David Shannon Payne of Molino, FL; one daughter, Kelly Colleen Payne Lister of Parsons, WV; two step-daughters, Pat Scott and Glenda Hamilton, both of FL; one brother, Thomas H. Payne and wife Sally of Kansas; one sister, Patty Ann Payne of Parsons, WV, two granddaughters: Sabra Colleen Stewart and Nicole Colleen Payne, both of FL; and one great granddaughter, Willow Rain Colleen Payne.

He was a graduate of Middlesboro High School in Kentucky with the class of 1952. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy, during the Cuban Missile Crisis, with twenty- two years of service. He was a cement layer and he worked at the Barnes Super Market in Cantonment, FL. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and enjoyed looking for ginseng.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Wednesday, June 20, 2018 from 10AM until 12 Noon the funeral hour. The Rev. David Snyder will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, WV., where the U.S. Navy Funeral Honor Guard, the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion, the Tygart Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign War and the Tucker Co. Veterans Assoc. will conduct full military honors.
