John Ray Thompson, 75, a resident of Parsons, passed from this life Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at his home surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Mountain Hospice.
John was born in Parsons on Friday, July 14, 1950, a son of the late Hobart Thompson and Sherlene “Shirley” Summerfield. On June 7, 1969, in Parsons, he married Debra Ann Napoleon Thompson, who survives. They had celebrated fifty-six years of marriage.
Left to cherish John’s memory are three children, John Patrick Thompson, Daniel Ray Thompson and wife, Melissa and Debra Lynn Thompson, seven grandchildren, McKenzi Leary, Lukas Thompson Moore, Ryder Thompson, Mariah Parsons, Austin Parsons, Johnna Mullennex, and Camden Thompson, a brother, James A. Thompson and wife, Becky of Winder, Georgia.
John attended Tucker County schools. He had worked as police chief for the City of Parsons, as a police officer for the Town of Davis, and worked for Roberts Estates from which he retired after many years. He had been a member of the Parsons Fire Department and was a member of the Mt. Top Hunting Club and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Over the years, he had become a master craftsman and built his own home and many of the furnishings in it.
Visitation was held at the Hostetler Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, from 11 am to 1 pm the funeral hour. Rev. Kevin Hostetler officiated, and interment followed at Thompson Family Cemetery in Parsons. The Hostetler Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements for John Ray Thompson.
