Sarah “Kathryn” Watring Knotts, age 93 years, a resident of the Leadmine Community, Parsons, WV, departed this life Saturday morning, May 23, 2026, at her home, surrounded by her loving family, and under the care of West Virginia Caring.
She was born Friday, February 10, 1933, at Morgantown, WV, a daughter of the late Artennis Woodford Watring and Mary Jane Watring. On May 19, 1951, at Oakland, MD, she was united in marriage to Bernard Ray Knotts, who preceded her in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Jean Hottle and husband Donald of Shaffertown and Sandra Kay Owens and husband Doug of St. George; five grandchildren, Doug M. Owens and wife Wendy of New Creek, Ashlea Wolfe and fiancé Joe Harper of Pierce, Holli Rogers and husband Nathaniel of St. George, Wendy Wolford and husband Eddie of Clover and Matthew Hottle and wife Aimee of PA; sixteen great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews; and a special caregiver, Ronda Cavalier.
She is the last surviving member of her immediate family having been preceded in death by one son, Edward Carl “Sonny” Knotts; three brothers, Ralph Lee Watring, Jim Brooks Watring and Paul Woodford Watring; five sisters, Meredith Hope Cramer, Gayle Marie Strawderman, Ruby Louise Somerville, Ruth Ann Houser and Betty Jane Lipscomb; and three grandchildren, Chad Owens, Jaime Knotts and Justin Knotts.
She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1951. She was a member of the Parsons Seventh Day Adventist. She was a former employee of the Bausch & Lomb Co., the Cuppets & Weeks Nursing Home, Garrett Memorial Hospital as a C.N.A., and retired in 1996 from the U.S. Forest Service, as a Lab Technician. Kathryn enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking and quilting, jigsaw and crossword puzzles. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons, WV on Thursday from 4 PM to 7 PM. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home on Friday, May 29, 2026, at 11 AM. Pastor Roger Curtis and Matthew Donald Hottle officiated and interment followed at the Watring Family Cemetery at Shaffertown, WV.
