Leona Jean Moore Marsh, age 77 years, a resident of Parsons, WV departed this life early Saturday morning, January 16, 2021 at Mon Health Medical Center at Morgantown, WV following a short illness.

She was born Friday, August 20, 1943 at Cavittsville, PA, a daughter of the late Briston O’Dell and Erna Jean Peddar Moore.  On September 21, 1963, she was married to Jimmy Earnest Marsh, who preceded her in death July 7, 2007.

Surviving are one son, Thomas Ray “Tom” Marsh and wife Michelle of Franklin, TN; one daughter, Rebecca Lynn “Becky” McDaniel of Morgantown; two brothers, Ron Moore and wife Julie of Springfield, VA, Roger Moore and wife Teresa of Philippi; six sisters, Jan Morgan of Philippi, Twila Matlick and husband Doward of Kasson, Mary Murray of Elkins, Catherine Lewis and husband Jim of  Elkins, Donna Staggs and husband Terry of Morgantown, and Rhonda Dumire of Philippi; four grandchildren, Keri McDaniel, Jamie Wood, Grant Marsh, and Andrew Marsh; and one great granddaughter, Cataleya McDaniel; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins, also survive.

She attended the one room schoolhouse at Valley Furnace and was a graduate of Belington High School.  Following school, she moved to DC, worked at the Dept. of Human Services.  She stopped working for a few years to raise her children. When the family moved to Georgia in the early 80’s, she returned to the workplace and started her career at the Veterans Administration Medical Clinic.   She later worked for the VA in Clarksburg and finally at the VA clinic in Parsons, with over forty-one years of service.  She loved her work with the Veterans.  Leona grew up in Nestorville and Valley Furnace but spent a lot of time with her beloved Aunt Violet and Uncle Tom Tennant in Tucker County.     She attended The First United Methodist Church of Parsons and the Parsons Church of the Nazarene.  Leona enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles and loved reading faith-based novels.  She especially enjoyed large family gatherings at Christmas, Easter, and July.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Thursday from 4  to 7 p.m.  Funeral Services will be Private.  The Rev. William Brown and The Rev. Steve Morrow will officiate and interment will follow at the Pifer Mountain Cemetery at St. George, WV.  As we continue to follow the CDC guidelines, social distancing and facial coverings will be required.  The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Leona Jean Moore Marsh.  Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.lohrbarbfuneralhome.com
