Nancy Eleanor Hunt, age 73 years, departed this life peacefully Saturday morning, January 16, 2021, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home in Thomas, W.Va., after a long illness.

She was born Tuesday, May 20, 1947, in Buffalo, N.Y., a daughter of the late Seward Adelbert Moot, Jr. and Virginia Crossman Moot, of Wilson, N.Y. On August 15, 1964 she married the love of her life, the late Donald Thomas Hunt of Ransomville, N.Y. Later the couple moved to Parsons, W.Va. and eventually to St. George, W.Va. where they lived many happy years together raising their three children and spending time together until his death on April 17, 1996.

She is survived by three children, sons James Douglas Hunt and wife Laura of St. George, W.Va., and Richard David Hunt and wife Amy of Hambleton, W.Va., and daughter Marcia Lea Hunt Evans of Parsons, W.Va.; two brothers, Gerrit Vaness Moot and wife Linda of Wilson, N.Y. and Dana C. Moot of Lockport, N.Y.; in-laws George and Donna Hunt of St. George, W.Va. and Robert Hunt of Ransomville, N.Y.; eight grandchildren, David Asbury (Tamara) of St. George, W.Va., Brandon Hunt (Kelly) of Apex, N.C., Nathanial Hunt (Larissa) of Petersburg, W.Va., Kyleen Dye of Las Cruces, N.M., Codi Hardy (Jeff) of Thomas, W.Va., Joshua Hunt of Hambleton, W.Va., Thomas Evans (Zoe) of Thomas, W.Va., and Tanner Gatto of Hambleton, W.Va.; seven great grandchildren;  and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald; one brother, Samuel Adelbert Moot III of Seattle, Wash.; son-in-law Denzil “Denny” Earl Evans of Parsons, W.Va.; and in-laws Leo and Nancy Bax of Olcott, N.Y.

She attended school in Wilson and Buffalo, N.Y. and was later declared Valedictorian of her GED class at Davis & Elkins College in Elkins, W.Va.

She was a homemaker for many years but also dabbled in several of her own business ventures. Her most recent venture was a restaurant called Hunters, which was located in Deep Creek, Md. She operated a gift shop in two locations in Parsons, W.Va. and a women’s gym called the Sweatshop in Elkins, W.Va. Prior to these ventures she was employed by Harris Motors in Lockport, N.Y.  An Episcopalian by faith, she enjoyed coffee with seniors at the local motel/restaurant and volunteered at the local senior center helping with crafts and driving their van.

As a young girl she enjoyed horseback riding. She was an avid reader and loved all things “crafty.” One of her favorite activities was sitting on her porch watching the birds and wildlife in her backyard. She loved animals and provided homes to many beloved pets over the years. She enjoyed spending time with her family most of all, especially on fishing trips and vacations in and around the water. She will be remembered for her infectious laugh that made for many happy memories.

Private family services will be held at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons.  The Rev. William R. Brown will officiate. Interment will follow at the Bethel Cemetery on Holly Meadows Road in Parsons, W.Va. Memorial donations may be made to the Five Rivers Public Library, 301 Walnut Street, Parsons, WV 26287.
