mackmauldinMack Mauldin, age 89 years, a resident of Hendricks, WV departed this life Thursday afternoon, October 6, 2016 at his home surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Mountain Hospice. He had been in declining health.
He was born Saturday, June 11, 1927 at Hughes, AR a son of the late William McKinley “Mack” Mauldin, Sr. and Esta Pearl King Mauldin. On February 16, 1985 at Parsons, WV he was married to the former Mary Ellen Griffith, who survives. Also surviving are six daughters, Deborah Matney-Buns and husband Mike, Rebecca Harmon and husband Jim of AZ, Jennifer Kmetz of AZ, Stephanie Larson of IA, Sue Ellen Shrout of Huntington, Kim and James Snyder of Hambleton. One son Jeffrey Mauldin and wife Debbie of TX. Ten grandchildren Elizabeth, Sean, Katie, Michael, Adam, Alex, Annie, Hannah, Bria, and Emma. Five great grandchildren Lauren, Lily, Khloe, Christian and Luke.
Preceding him in death is one sister Winnie Hobbs.
He was a graduate of West Helena High School with the class of 1944. He then attended Ole Miss University. In 1945 he enlisted in the US Navy. He then attended Arkansas A&M before being appointed to the naval academy, graduating in 1952. He then enlisted in the Air Force and became a pilot. He then went to MIT and became and aeronautics engineer. He was then stationed at the Norton Air Force base, flying a C-47. He retired Lieutenant Colonel from the Air Force in October of 1976. He was a commander of the ROTC at Drake University. After his retirement, he worked several years as a director of housing at Drake University. Mr. Mauldin was a member of the St. Paul United Methodist Church. He was a commander of the ROTC at Drake University. He enjoyed reading, writing poems, practicing calligraphy, and was an avid gardener. His passion was flying. His greatest joy was his family.
Mr. Mauldin’s request for cremation was honored. The family will receive friends at the St. Paul United Methodist Church of Parsons Saturday October 15 2016 from 11am to 1pm. A memorial service will be held at 1pm with the Reverend Mike Lantz, James Snyder, Sue Metzner, and Adam Snyder officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Bethel Cemetery at Holly Meadows. The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Mack Mauldin. Condolences may be expressed to the family at; www.lohrbarbfuneralhome.com
