Margaret Marie Filler Evick Harlow

Margaret Marie Filler Evick Harlow, age 101 years, a resident of Parsons, WV, departed this life Monday morning, February 1, 2016 at her home surrounded by her loving family and under the care of Hospice Care Corporation.

She was born Sunday, October 18, 1914 at Parsons, WV, a daughter of the late Percy Falk Filler and Edna Dove Stokes Filler. She was twice married. First on June 22, 1933 at Red House, MD, to William Ray Evick, who preceded her in death 1961. Second, on March 30, 1963 at Oakland, MD, to William Harlow, who preceded her in death 1974.

Surviving are one son, William Ray Evick, Jr and wife Linda of Parsons; one daughter, Jacqueline Margaret Evick Stevens and husband Lawrence “Darney” of Holly Meadows; one brother, John Edward Filler and wife Viola of Parsons; five grandchildren, Bill Stevens and wife Kathy, Brian Stevens and wife Debbie, Dawn Harper and husband Troy, David Evick and Marciea Evick; and four great grandchildren, Brad Stevens, Dee Stevens, Emilee Harper and Kelsey Jordan; one special niece Cindy Humphrey Harsh; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death are two brothers, Percy Junior “Bud” Filler and Charles Pete Filler; and four sisters, Alice Mae Collette, Edna “June” Felton, Erma Lea Mauzy and Mildred Virginia Hebb.

She attended the schools of Tucker County. She was an employee of the former Dorman Mill until its closing, Stevens’ Florist, Deb’s Donuts and she was a homemaker. Margaret was an avid cook and loved finding new recipes, reading, gardening and watching her birds. She always enjoyed a good game of cards or dominos. She always loved spending time at the family cabin with family and friends, and was also a big supporter of all her grandchildren and their activities. She was a strong willed, kind hearted women that loved all people, especially her family.

The family received friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. Final rites were conducted at the funeral home on Friday, February 5, 2016 at noon. The Reverend J. Michael Lantz officiated and interment followed at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, WV. The family would like to thank the staff of Cortland Acres and all others who have cared for her over the last six months, and for all of the love and support from family and friends.
