Otta Susan Hedrick Ashby

Otta Susan Hedrick Ashby, age 89 years, a resident of Parsons, WV went to be with her Lord and her loving husband, Sunday morning on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 2021, at the Davis Medical Center at Elkins, WV, surrounded by her family.

She was born Tuesday, October 20, 1931 at Parsons, WV, a daughter of the late William “Frank” and Gladys Lynette Sharp Hedrick.  On December 25, 1949 at Red House, MD she was married to Frank Ashby, who preceded her in death May 14, 2017.

Surviving are one son, Carl Lee Ashby of Parsons; two daughters, Dianna Lynn Walker and husband Rick of Conneaut, OH and Kimberly Hope Snyder and husband Henry of Hambleton; one brother, Dale Hedrick and wife Frances of Rivesville, two sisters, Mary Johanna Nelson of Elkins and Linda Canfield of Pheasant Run; twelve grandchildren; twenty four great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  Preceding her in death are five brothers, Hubert L. Hedrick, Johnny Hedrick, Chester Hedrick, Bert Hedrick and Blair Hedrick; two sisters Gertrude Carr and Annis Dell Combs; one grandson, Carl Ashby, Jr.; and daughter-in-law, Patricia Ashby.

She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1950.  She was a homemaker, taking care of her family.  Alongside her husband, they spent twenty years in Ohio, twenty years in Louisiana and returned back home to Parsons, WV in the early 90’s.  She was a member of the Parsons First Baptist Church.  She enjoyed traveling to visit with family.  She loved gardening, canning, and cooking and making sure no one left her home hungry.  She loved and lived for her family.

The family received friends at the First Baptist Church of Parsons on Thursday from 5  to 7 p.m.  Final rites will be conducted at the church on Friday, February 19, 2021 at 11 a.m.  The Reverend Greg Smith will officiate and interment will follow at the Mountain State Memorial Gardens at Gilman.  Masks and social distancing will be required.  The Lohr & Barb Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for Otta Susan Hedrick Ashby.  Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.lohrbarbfuneralhome.com
